Municipal or local climate protection activities in Germany, Japan and the USA shall be analyzed in a research project funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (Umweltbundesamt). The research project shall deliver the basis for the identification of successful and efficient measures to reduce green houses gases at the municipal level. By taking into account country-specific scopes of action, workshop participants shall create a benchmark of local climate protection strategies. The results shall motivate the creation and further development of climate protection sister-city partnerships between Germany and Japan and the USA. The main goal of this workshop in Japan is to put forward recommendations to the local (or regional or national) levels to strengthen municipal climate protection.
