The German-Japanese Young Leaders Forum 2018 will be held from Friday, 31 August to Sunday, 9 September 2018 in Germany (Potsdam and Berlin). This year’s program with the topic "Mobility" will cover the social, political and economic dimensions of the opportunities and challenges of future developments in this area. The deadline for applications will be Friday, 20 April 2018.
The German-Japanese Young Leaders Forum (YLF) aims at fostering contact and cooperation between Japan and Germany. The forum provides time for an exchange of views and for working on concepts to contribute to the development of both countries. Building a network between young potential leaders from both countries the YLF is also a floor for networking.
During the ten-day program on a topic relevant to both countries, top-level speakers from politics, business, and academia give lectures and discuss with the participants. Visits to institutions and companies complement the program through first-hand insights. A workshop with alumni from previous YLF is arranged at the end of the program. It takes place annually, alternating between Germany and Japan, and is held in English.
The YLF is organized by the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB) and funded by B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. and NÜRNBERGER Insurance Group in 2018 and supported by other institutions. Basic expenditure during the Young Leaders Forum will be met by the organizers (travel costs, accommodation, meals, transport etc.).
The YLF addresses 16 promising young professionals, eight German and eight Japanese nationals. They should be active in the fields of politics, business, science, media or administration. Participants are required to speak English fluently and should be between 25 and 35 years old.
Participants are mainly recruited upon recommendation by key persons from private companies and public institutions. Young Leaders who would like to actively apply for the program are invited to contact us for further details and the application form, also if they currently do not belong to a certain organization. All applicants are required to submit the application form, a curriculum vitae and a letter of recommendation by their current or most recent employer. All documents must be written in English.
The organizers will examine each application carefully. Since the number of participants is limited to eight participants from Germany and eight from Japan and the number of applications usually is much higher, not every application can be successful. The organizers will make a well-considered choice to form a balanced group with high potentials from the various fields.
