German-Japanese Study Program for Youth Work Specialists
This program is aimed at specialists that are employed in the field of youth work. Every year two delegations of experts in various youth work fields are invited to visit Japan or Germany. These multipliers are then introduced to the frameworks of youth work in the other country. Participants visit youth work institutions and centers; they meet the youth of the other country and learn more about their problems, and thus have an opportunity to acquire knowledge for their own work and to develop further their own country’s national youth work agenda. The International Youth Exchange and Visitors Service of the Federal Republic of Germany and the JDZB are responsible for organizing the German side of this study program. |
German-Japanese Exchange Program for Young Employees
Whilst many other institutions exchange programs are directed at students, this program seeks to give young employees and trainees aged between 18 and 30 years the opportunity to visit the other country.

German-Japanese Youth Leaders Exchange
This program was developed for youth leaders aged between 18 and 26 years who work voluntarily for youth associations. Over a two-week visit, participants in the program shall be given the opportunity to look beyond their own lives and gather new impetuses, and to use these new ideas in their own work. It makes sense to foster those who work on a volunteer basis.

German-Japanese Highschool Student Exchange (“TAKENOKO Fund”)
Many German and Japanese schools have partnerships with schools in the other country. Yet student exchanges often fail due to a lack of funding because travel costs are particularly high. The “TAKENOKO Fund for German-Japanese Student Exchange” seeks to support these already existing initiatives. “Takenoko” is the Japanese term for young bamboo shoots; thus the fund seeks to help students in the program to quickly form a dense and solid network, similar to young bamboo shoots. |
Exchange Program for Young Experts
This program targets young potential managers from public research institutions or – future executives from private companies in Germany and Japan. Through visits to the other country the program seeks to promote mutual understanding as well as foster lively academic exchange and discussions. |
German-Japanese Young Leaders Forum
The German-Japanese Young Leaders Forum was established in 2006 and is funded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung (Foundation) and organized by the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB). The program comprises a summer school on a socio-political topic relevant to both countries, including visits of institutions and companies as well as a cultural program. It takes place annually, alternating between Germany and Japan, and is held in English. The Young Leaders Forum addresses 16 young high potentials, eight Japanese and eight Germans. They are recruited by inviting key persons from private companies or public institutions in the fields of politics, business, research, media or administration to recommend a prospective candidate within their organization. Participants are required to speak English fluently and should be between 25 to 35 years old.
