KITAYAMA Osamu designed this lecture series ‘Academic Theater’ that has been running since 2010, in which he presents lectures in a staged talk show format and occasionally makes music with well-known friends and guests. Academic Theater has become hugely popular in Japan and most lectures are published on DVD as well.
The lecture “Psychoanalytical Observations of Japanese Ukiyoe – Mother-Child-Relations Past and Present” that KITAYAMA will now present in Germany, is part of this lecture series. KITAYAMA topicalizes the relations between mother and child from a psychoanalytical perspective. The topic is the focus of his research. KITAYAMA analyzes thereby Ukiyoe woodcuts from the Edo Period, which are also interesting from an art historical perspective.
