HIGASHIYAMA Kaii (1908-1999) is one of the most well-known exponents of Nihonga painting for his ability to combine East and West. His work is characterized by a lyrical quality, and also reflects his travels and experiences in Europe. As a student, he spent two years in Berlin from 1933 and from 1985-94 he joined the JDZB and developed a close and personal relationship through his work on the board of trustees. With this exhibition, the JDZB once again honors the artist and his work.
