Noise, bustle and crowds of people surging together in the subways and streets; images and associations similar to these prevail about the teeming metropolis Tôkyô.
These stereotypes are confronted in the photographs of Gerald CHRIST: his oversized portraits take the viewer into a seemingly entranced, salvaged parallel world of silence. The photos of the city focus our attention on strangely empty public spaces; tidy and seemingly well structured, the images stimulate us to think, or beguile us to smile quietly..
Curator of the Exhibition was the art historian Harald THEISS.
