The Photographic Society of Japan was recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1952 for the purpose of, "contributing to the development of culture and the advancement of international goodwill through photography."
This organization has initiated photographic exchange events with countries from all over the globe so as to fulfill that important tenet. The organization hosted an exhibition in Belgrade and Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia) between February and April 2011, entitled "Crown on the Earth" with the Photographic Society of Japan Newcomer's Award-winners’ works. After Serbia this successful exhibition will be shown at the Japanese-German Center Berlin.
The Photographic Society of Japan commemorates the "Annual Day of Photography" by awarding the "Photographic Society of Japan Award" to distinguished photographers. "Crown on the Earth" will feature 63 pieces from seven photographers who won the "Newcomer's Award" during the 3-year period from 2007 to 2009.
