Germany, Europe and Japan cannot be indifferent to the rise of China and India. On the one hand, the ascent of and developments within the East Asian power triangle have enormous global consequences – irrespective of whether they concern energy policies, climate protection, trade or the economy, or even the ever more powerful government wealth funds.
On the other hand, this shift of power in Asia will influence the role of Europe (and Germany) and Japan in Asia. With the rise of India and China we are now not only witnessing the emergence of two potentially gigantic economic powers as new global players, but we will also compete with them as democratic and autocratic models. Thus, it is in our interests to analyze government and security policies, economic and social preconditions and the consequences of the rise of China and India, and then broach these issues within a conference framework.
