Following the January 26, 2009 symposium in Berlin (Global Responsibility in Development Cooperation of Japan and Germany), the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB), Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) shared the following understandings and agreed to the following to hold a symposium in Tôkyô within a year, with a similar agenda, but focusing on the Asian experience and its possible comparison with Africa.
The results of the Berlin meeting shall be applied to the forthcoming Tôkyô conference to help to create broad opportunities of cooperation among ODA policy makers and executing agencies of both countries.
The objectives of the conference in Tôkyô on November 7, 2009 (Global Responsibility in Development Cooperation of Japan and Germany - Supporting State-building in Asia) are:
- to promote better understanding and actual practices of “Human Security” and “State-Building” (including “Capacity Development” as an approach), and to share Japanese/German approaches and lessons-learned in the world of “Development Cooperation” in Afghanistan and Southeast Asia bearing the above in mind.
